7 Things To Discover About Contemporary Architecture

What exactly is contemporary architecture? It is usually defined as the architecture of the present day.

As you can imagine, this definition can lead to confusion. One might think that any recently constructed building counts as an example of contemporary architecture, but this is clearly not the case.

Contemporary architecture is based on a principle that is shared by all those who practice it: the desire and the will to design and build things that are different from what was done in the past and what is usually done today. Contemporary architecture aims to break away from the processes and ways of thinking that have become standard. It is innovative.

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana

PMAY

Under the PMGAY scheme, financial assistance worth ₹120,000 in plain areas and ₹130,000 (US$1,800) in difficult areas (high land area) is provided for construction of houses.These houses are equipped with facilities such as toilet, LPG connection, electricity connection, and drinking water [convergence with other schemes e.g. Swachh Bharat Abhiyan toiletsUjjwala Yojana LPG gas connection, Saubhagya Yojana electricity connection, etc.]. The houses are allotted in the name of the woman or jointly between husband and wife. The construction of the houses is the sole responsibility of the beneficiary and engagement of contractors is strictly prohibited. Sanitary latrine and smokeless chullah are required to be constructed along with each IAY house for which additional financial assistance is provided from "Total Sanitation Campaign" and "Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana" ( Which is now subsumed by Deen Dayal Upadhaya Gram Jyoti Yojana ) respectively. This scheme, operating since 1985, provides subsidies and cash-assistance to people in villages to construct their houses, themselves.

29 world famous buildings to inspire you

Whether you're a busy art director or an illustrator working from home, every creative needs some downtime. And there's no better way to both relax and be inspired than jetting off somewhere you've never been before.

Whenever we travel to far-flung places, we're attracted to the famous buildings. Much like a photograph, architectural designs record details of specific moments in time.

But unlike an photograph, physical structures go on to have a life of their own, becoming a central and functional part of countless people's lives for hundreds, if not thousands, of years after they were built.

Here, we've picked 29 of the most famous building designs from around the world to inspire you

What’s the Difference Between Interior Architecture and Interior Design?

So, what is interior architecture? There has been a debate raging for some time around the terms architecture, interior architecture, interior design, and interior decoration. The discussion centres on the blurring of the lines that define the role and responsibilities of each profession: where does the interior design of a space end and architecture begin, and vice versa?

So what is interior architecture, and perhaps just as importantly, how does it differ from architecture, interior design and interior decoration?

Below, we have attempted to explain the differing roles and responsibilities of all of these professions.

Kerala Architecture::Nalukettu

Nālukettu is the traditional homestead of Tharavadu where many generations of a matrilineal family lived. These types of buildings are typically found in the Indian state of Kerala. The traditional architecture is typically a rectangular structure where four blocks are joined together with a central courtyard open to the sky. The four halls on the sides are named Vadakkini (northern block), Padinjattini (western block), Kizhakkini (eastern block) and Thekkini (southern block). The architecture was especially catered to large families of the traditional tharavadu, to live under one roof and enjoy the commonly owned facilities of the marumakkathayam homestead.
